Dementia Care

Dementia Care is all about helping you or your loved one to have the necessary support they require to continue living in your own home. At Audrey Care and Housing, our carers follow the Kitwood framework that encourages staff to focus less on what is done and more on how it is done. The care staff have undertaken intensive training programs and are highly skilled at dealing with dementia clients; they are aware of Kitwood’s principles — which critically evaluates how programs and communication strategies can be adopted and implemented to support clients with dementia.

At Audrey Care and Housing, we produce a personal, centred support strategy plan for people with dementia living at home to be self-reliant and in control as they can be. This plan consists of two parts:

  • ‘My support plan’ — a top sheet which provides a snapshot for quick reference.

  • ‘My support plan’ — this draws upon the theories of Tom Kitwood who proposed that improving social psychology provides the greatest opportunity to enhance the experience of a person living with dementia.

Completing this type of support plan may take a maximum of 4 weeks initially while carers get to know the client and seek information in order to build up a picture. Over time more and more will be learnt about the client and can be added to the plan and revisions made in response to changing needs.
